'Granny Gets A New Knee
|
American PT Association PodcastOn a Thursday morning in late July, before hopping on my bike to teach an ATM class, I answered questions Jason Bellamy asked about 'Granny.' The APTA publishes a series of Podcasts for free, which cover the breadth and scope of practice performed by PTs. If you are interested, you can see the list of subjects for past podcasts by clicking here
I appreciated Jason's generosity in allowing me to speak at length about the book, and his art in encouraging me to speak about my experiences in more general terms. The interview covers the importance of care for care-givers and the active involvement of patients/clients in their plan of care. It concludes with young people, and how hours of sitting while focusing on screens is shaping their spines. I have uploaded the podcast: Knee Replacement Surgery: A Storybook Approach Please enjoy. I'm so jealous of Granny! She was ready to begin moving as soon as the anesthetic wore off. I didn't find Louise until several weeks after surgery and we've worked hard to make up for lost time. These exercises retrain the body to move more fluidly, relieve the pain of rehab and prevent future joint damage. This book is a must-have for anyone suffering from knee pain, contemplating knee replacement surgery, or rehabing from that surgery. Go, Granny!" ~ Anne H. Lawyer and Mediator |
